Home  About Us Nature of Glenwood/Trails

One of the unique features of Glenwood Gardens is that this park has passive walking trails. No bikes or skates are permitted on the trails providing a quieter View of Glenwood Gardens.atmosphere in which to see wildlife. Within the 335 acres of Glenwood Gardens you'll find a variety of habitats. While the paved one mile walking path takes you mostly around open grasslands, there are stands of mature trees offering opportunity to spot numerous bird species. Bluebirds, tree swallows and goldfinch frequent this area. The graveled path, leading to the 1.6 mile Wetland Loop trail brings you through forest, wetland and prairie. Prairie areas are ablaze with color in mid to late summer when blazing star and butterfly milkweed are in bloom. Stop here to spots to view butterflies! The vernal ponds around the wetland areas are great places to see and hear amphibians such as the bullfrog, green frog and American toad. These seasonal ponds are good breeding places for not only frog species, but especially for salamanders and insects like colorful dragonflies. The riparian areas near the West Fork of the Millcreek offer refuge to a variety of birds and reptiles, and crayfish. Take the time to enjoy each of these special habitats and come prepared as most of the trail is not shaded.
